Mequon-Thiensville School District

Mequon, WI


In April 2015, the community approved an $18.2 million public referendum for district-wide improvements at the Mequon-Thiensville School District (MTSD). Projects include capital improvements and various student-centered learning environments to meet the needs of MTSD’s modern curriculum and personalized learning initiatives.

DONGES BAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Over 70,900 square feet of construction was phased for numerous renovations and over 2,700 square feet was added for a two-classroom space to help with rising enrollment. Significant construction work included:

  • New secured entry
  • Renovations to restrooms, mechanical/electrical upgrades, and window replacements
  • Gym floor replacement, new casework, and new paint throughout the building

HOMESTEAD HIGH SCHOOL
Over 26,000 square feet of extensive renovations and maintenance were completed throughout the School. Substantial updates included the following:

  • Replacement of windows, new secured entry, and new gym flooring
  • New swimming pool liner and boiler system
  • Renovations and technology upgrades to the server room
  • Installation of a multi-sport turf field

Additionally, a new 1,800-square-foot James Barr Performing Arts Center was renovated and included the following improvements:

  • New secured entry and vestibule area
  • ADA restrooms
  • Additional storage space
  • Expanded auditorium lobby

LAKESHORE MIDDLE SCHOOL
Lakeshore received upgrades to the existing HVAC system, new secured entry, locker replacements, window replacements, and gym floor resurfacing and painting. Additionally, a new Instructional Media Center (IMC) was created to include the following student-centered enhancements:

  • Breakout areas
  • Circulation and reference centers
  • Discovery rooms
  • Eyes on learning displays
  • Mobile resource centers
  • Small group instruction area with flexible seating
  • Staff workroom with rolling islands
  • Wireless monitors
  • Writable wall surfaces

ORIOLE LANE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Extensive renovations included new lockers and cubbies, doors and hardware, boilers, roofing, replacement of windows, and reupholstered gym acoustical panels. New secured entry and mechanical/electrical upgrades were performed, as well as a new 2,760-square-foot classroom addition.

RANGE LINE
Findorff converted approximately 2,000 square feet of existing locker rooms into new storage space, performed extensive HVAC upgrades, replaced windows, and installed a new boiler and secured entry.

SOMMER’S AUTOMOTIVE PAVILION
The new Sommer’s Automotive Pavilion is approximately 6,000 square feet. This multi-purpose, outdoor community pavilion includes both a men’s and women’s locker room, concession space and enhanced areas for community activities.

STEFFEN MIDDLE SCHOOL
About 73,700 square feet in extensive demolition and renovation work took place in preparation for a new IMC with a revised layout, ceilings, paint and flooring. New lockers, windows, and boilers were installed throughout the school, as well as secured entry and mechanical/electrical upgrades. The new IMC includes the following student-centered enhancements:

  • Circulation and reference centers
  • Discovery rooms
  • Eyes on learning displays
  • Mobile resource centers
  • Small group instruction area with flexible seating

WILSON ELEMENTARY
Wilson received a new gym floor, casework in classrooms, a new front secured entrance, boiler, ceramic tile, and exterior painting. Additionally, extensive renovation work happened within the bathrooms, window replacement, as well as a new 3,830-square-foot classroom addition.
