Located just west of the existing UW Hospital and Clinics, the new 420,00 square-foot American Family Children's Hospital features a cheerful, family-friendly atmosphere with increased accommodations including larger inpatient rooms, a pediatric ICU, childhood cancer unit, and more.
Findorff has used BIM on multiple levels throughout the development of this complex project to address critical components associated with the hospital’s emergency health care services.
For example, a model of the entire UW Hospital & Clinics campus area was created during the project’s preconstruction phase to simulate the emergency Med Flight patterns in association with crane paths. Potential interference was detected, and as a result, Findorff proactively constructed a new temporary landing to meet the needs of the hospital.
Another potentially sensitive area of the project involved the new Emergency Department entrance. In this case, Findorff utilized BIM to facilitate sequencing and material deliveries to allow the entrance to efficiently operate while construction continued directly above.
