Edgewood College, Edgewood High School, and Edgewood Campus School joined together to create a shared facility with an integrated science program for students from kindergarten to college. The result was the Sonderegger Science Center - a project that Findorff served as general contractor and provided a Guaranteed Maximum Price.
The 62,000-square-foot building houses an interactive exploratorium, a multimedia amphitheater, nine instructional laboratories, seven research laboratories, a lecture hall, seminar rooms and 14 faculty offices. A 290-car, 3-story concrete parking ramp is connected to the Science Center.
Findorff’s value engineering alternatives proposed during the design phase were critical to maintaining the project budget. One suggestion included using a veneer paneling called Metrocast instead of precast concrete. This alternative, lighter than precast and faster to erect, saved almost $75,000 and reduced the project schedule for the Science Center by three weeks.
