Are you a high school student who loves to build things, and unsure of what career path is right for you? Findorff partners with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) to offer Youth Apprenticeship opportunities to students who would prefer to learn outside of the traditional classroom environment. Youth Apprenticeships at Findorff allow students to earn while they learn on the job, working with skilled tradespeople on active jobsites.
As part of her youth apprenticeship, Kasey had the opportunity to explore the wide variety of career paths available in the trades while earning school credits. This hands-on work experience built her confidence and gave her a jump-start on a career in the trades before graduating from high school.
Utilize hand and power tools
Install doors, door hardware, cabinets, countertops, and bathroom accessories
Clean and prepare jobsites for upcoming tasks
Assist with concrete pours
Read construction drawings and plans
Build and set forms for footings, walls, slabs, columns, and decks
Frame interior walls, cabinets, and stairs
Strip formwork
Follow safety procedures

Architecture & Construction Pathway
Youth Apprentices will:
Gain Carpentry skills and knowledge by working side-by-side with an experienced Carpenter
Work with Findorff’s other self-perform trades (Ironworker, Operator, Bricklayer, Cement Finisher, Laborer)
Have an opportunity to shadow subcontractors on the project (Electrician, Plumber, HVAC, Glazers, etc.)
Witness all phases of a construction project
Since 2015, Findorff has employed 47 High School Juniors or Seniors through the Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship Program. Of these Youth Apprentices, 17 have been hired as full-time Apprentices.
